Mikhail Lezin: Boom May 31 - Jul 28, 2012

NEW YORK, NY – Ten43 Gallery is pleased to present Mikhail Lezin: Boom, on view from May 31st through July 28th, 2012. This is the artist’s first exhibition with the gallery, and first exhibition in the United States.

A prominent figure on the international noise music circuit and the founder of the Kubotrob music label, Lezin was the featured artist at the 2011 Moscow Biennienial. Music and music making form an integral part of his art practice. According to the artist “I make music synchronously while painting and drawing. I manipulate rhythm and sound in every picture while it is in creation. The results on paper or canvas may appear as a landscape or calligraphic compositions.”

The eight paintings in the exhibition all feature a wide spectrum of landscape interpretations coupled with recti-linear areas of color. Using a color palate and gestural style evocative of Julian Schnabel, Lezin nonetheless creates a pictorial language of his own with a strong urban and industrial sensibility.

Mikhail Lezin was born 1974, in Togliatti a city on the banks of the Volga in central, Russia. His paintings have been featured in solo exhibitions in galleries across Russia. Erarta at Ten43 Gallery focuses on showcasing the work of emerging, mid-career and established Russian artists. Founded in St. Petersburg, Russia, in 2010, the gallery has locations in London and Zurich, and a gallery soon to open in Hong Kong, and is affiliated with Erarta, the first museum of Contemporary Russian art in St. Petersburg.
